Certain Doubts
Certain Doubts
“The more I know, the more I doubt.
This Solo is an Ode to the Doubt, a character trait I hold dear and damn.”
Doubt is a curious subject to me. Uncertainty does not feel attractive. Working with uncertainty though opens, physically, a language that seems natural to my body. I very much enjoyed diving into this subject and examining my relationship with this character trait of mine.
What can I physically derive from the notion of doubt to extract principles and elements that enrich my physical vocabulary?
What does ‘doubt’ do to my use of direction (in space or in my body)?
What does it do to my dynamic choices (tempo, sudden or sustained, accelerated decelerated, paused, directly towards, away from, indirect patterns)?
How does doubt translate in physical tension within my body and where do I notice that? How can I make that visible and therefore recognisable for the viewer?
What happens to my focus, my breathing,
my thought-inspired associations and thus physical interpretations?
I found much playful vocabulary in this research and developed a principle on how to derive physical vocabulary out of such a trait.
