Audio Visual Installation

The Future is not what it used to be I Part 1

NO SOUND

Dance/Circus Company Panama Pictures is inspired by the mystery of time.
The kick-off is ‘The Future is not what it used to be/Part One’, an audiovisual installation that translates the theme into video and soundtrack and immerses you in a new universe.

Everything is constantly in motion. Nothing ever stays the same, even if not every change is perceptible. We cannot stop the clock. The hours often slip by, but at other times seem elastic again. We are afraid of losing time.
But does time pass? Do the hours exist outside of ourselves?
Choreographer Pia Meuthen and her performers show the human desire to create cohesion in a fragmented world, not to lose the past, to get a grip on the future and to be absorbed in the moment. Floating rocks and tilted stairs form a surreal and poetic universe. On crumbling fragments, solidified in time, the performers balance high in the air. Above the yawning abyss, they unravel the connection between time and gravity. Beyond all certainties, they embrace risk and play with our perception of time.
At ‘Part One’ visitors walk through the space one by one and come across five life-size projections. The penetrating films, made by Jessica van Rüschen and Boris van Hoof, bring you close to the performers and their world. The expanding time becomes tangible in movement. A pulsating movement seems to be passed from screen to screen. Time is unstoppable and neither is the movement.
The soundtrack, a strong partner of the images, consists of a mix of text fragments and a new exciting composition by house composers Strijbos & van Rijswijk in collaboration with musician Davide Bellotta. The audio is arranged and controlled in such a way that it provides a spatial experience for the visitor. The place where you stand determines what you hear.
