SHORTS Landerer&Company
Choreographers Anila Mazhari and Jessica van Rüschen created the joint dance evening LIKE FICTION with LANDERER&COMPANY in 2022.
In recent weeks, the two have been together in the studio to begin research for a new, as yet untitled, dance evening as part of Landerer&Company’s SHORTS format:
In this edition of SHORTS the artists Jessica van Rüschen and Anila Mazhari explored the question, what would it feel like to take ownership of ones own time. What are the fears, the interactions, the triggers which take us further from ourselves and is the act of living deliberately itself a creative act? Can art be a way of passing time which frees us of ideas of productivity, usefulness, obligation and thereby offer an opportunity to experience our time freely and deeply?
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms…” – Henry David Thoreau
